2004

The idea of TNT was introduced at a TX-NENA conference session.

The first TNT meeting was held in November at Dallas Love Field. Representatives from 23 Texas agencies attended. The group's interests and goals were discussed.

2005

The TNT Board was established.

Representatives began attending quarterly TCLEOSE meetings. We presented the first "on the job" TDD training platform for TCLEOSE consideration, hosted professional development, hosted guest speakers, and launched the TNT website with online resources.

2006

TNT created a focus group to educate the TCLEOSE Board on ADA compliance and the impact on Texas Telecommunicators. The group presented documentation with support letters from TNT and TX-APCO & TX-NENA Chapters requesting TCLEOSE include TTY/TDD training as a Telecommunicator proficiency requirement for state certification.

2007

TCLEOSE Commissioners voted in support of TNT's request. TNT members were busy building the TNT website to include presenter information, media for training, standardizing training, and other shared resources. Members received their first training resources from the National Joint TERT Initiative for statewide training free of charge to all Telecommunicators.

2008

With the support of TCLEOSE and the Texas Training Coordinators Consortium, TNT launched a Task Force to review current Telecommunicator standards and educational requirements. At the time, there were no hiring standards and only one 40 hour course required to serve as a Telecommunicator in Texas. TNT testified at the Sunset Commission meeting in support of the continuation of TCLEOSE.

2009

During the 81st Texas Legislature, Rep. Stephen Frost introduced HB3175, that sought changes to the Texas Occupation Code to establish hiring standards, strengthen training standards and license  Telecommunicators. The bill was sent to committee; then set for an Interim Study.

2010

TNT continued educational efforts and consensus building on TC Standards legislation, incorporating feedback from public safety groups. Members testified before the Licensing and Administrative Committee in July.

2011

During the 81st Texas Legislature, Rep. Stephen Frost introduced HB 3175, which sought changes to the Texas Occupation Code to establish hiring standards, strengthen training standards and license  Telecommunicators. The bill was sent to committee; then set for an Interim Study.

National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reached out to TNT for support and project development of a statewide campaign to have all 9-1-1 center personnel trained in the best practices for handling calls reporting missing and exploited children. Texas NENA

supported TNT's efforts with funds to pay for travel and expenses for the BIG MISSION FOR A BIG STATE campaign.
